Abstract:

The Basics of MySQL is a practice-oriented collection of solved exercises designed to support the teaching of the SQL database language in the MySQL environment. It is primarily intended for undergraduate students of the Robotics and Cybernetics program at FEI STU in Bratislava, but also suitable for anyone interested in relational databases. The material covers several databases from diverse domains (astronomy, geography, music, user access, and physical measurements), with each chapter including database specifications, setup instructions, and exercises of varying difficulty. The aim is to enhance understanding and application of SQL commands such as SELECT, JOIN, INSERT, UPDATE, GRANT, as well as working with functions, views, procedures, and cursors. The script serves as a practical aid for strengthening knowledge and skills in working with relational database systems.
