Due to the worsening pandemic situation in Slovakia, and especially in Bratislava, the rector of STU with the recommendation of the Crisis Management of STU has decided to suspend on site learning and change to distance learning from Monday 5 October 2020, at the same time he recommends to Slovak students as well as foreign students who are in the 1st and 2nd study cycle to leave STU accommodation facilities until 9 October 2020 at the latest.
If a student does not leave the STU accommodation facility, he is facing a risk of forced quarantine measures or forced isolation of persons.
At the moment, STU records together 9 positive cases of COVID-19 from which one case is accommodated at the student house (ŠD Mladosť). We assume that the number of cases will grow, therefore we are changing to distance learning as a preventive measure.
Organization of teaching
The rector of STU has decided that all the educational activities in study programmes of 1st and 2nd cycle will be realized online from 5 October 2020.
The dean of the faculty, respectively the Head of the Institute of Management can allow individual work at the laboratory to students finishing their 2nd study cycle. The number of persons in laboratories have to respect the current decision and measure of the Public Health Authority of the Slovak Republic (UVZ SR), respectively relevant Regional Public Health Authority.
The method of study in the study programmes of the 3rd study cycle is to be decided by a responsible employee so that the project and scientific part of the study can be carried out.
Every STU workplace, where educational activity is carried out (institute, department, and so on) is obliged to appoint an employee who will carry the tasks of a technical coordinator for distance learning and who will be responsible for guidance of other employees of the relevant teaching place in the distance learning.
Accommodation at the student houses
We allow students living at the student houses to plan their voluntary departure. They can sign an amendment to the accommodation agreement until 9 October 2020 which means that the student house will keep their place that will be at their disposal when the pandemic measures are released and it will be possible to return back to the student houses.
At the same time, students do not have to move out completely, they can take their things needed for their daily life and their study and they can leave the rest of their equipment in their room. By signing the amendment, students will get a 100% discount on the fee for accommodation in November and December 2020. In case of a closed accommodation facility also after 1 January 2021, students will always pay only for the first month of the given calendar quarter term.
INSTRUCTION OF THE DIRECTOR OF THE STUDENT HOUSES STU TO PAYMENTS AND CHECK-OUT
FAQ:
"Why do I have to pay the fee for keeping the room if I don’t live there?
The fee is necessary in order to keep the student houses in service also during the quarantine. If you don’t accept this condition you still have a choice to check-out completely from the student house.
"Do I really need to leave now? What if I decide to stay at the student house?"
If you don’t leave the student house, you are exposed to a risk of forced quarantine measures or forced isolation of persons. It is possible that in a short time one of these scenarios might happen:
- The Regional Public Health Authority decides about closing the student houses (all students will have to leave).
- The Regional Public Health Authority decides about quarantine (the gates of the students houses will close and students will stay in their rooms in quarantine).
- The rector will issue an instruction of closing the dormitories (similar to the situation in march 2020).
