The Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava is the best of the Slovak technical universities. This has been confirmed by the EngiRank 2024 of European universities providing engineering programs. The winner Technical University of Denmark is followed by the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and the KU Leuven in Belgium. The ranking was publicized on Wednesday, 29 October in Brussels.
The EngiRank rating was published by "Perspektywy", the educational foundation, for the second year. It includes 226 institutions of higher education from 27 countries of the European Union, Switzerland and Norway. The release of the first EngiRank followed after years of consultation and seminars with academia, industry and engineering organisations, and was met with a very positive response.
“Engineers are key to the future of Europe; they are needed to maintain the global competitiveness of European industry and to ensure sustainable development in this continent," explains Waldemar Siwiński, designer of EngiRank, pioneer of educational rankings in Poland and international expert in academic assessments. He reminds that Europe is experiencing a shortage of almost two million engineers in the IT sector alone. EngiRank intends to help industry find the best graduates of engineering programmes and help potential students choose the best university or a study/research programme.
"STU realizes the importance and impact of ranking assessments and ratings, while actively observing their methodology and indicators and collaborating with an expert in the field. We believe that through systematic work and active participation in foreign projects such as EULiST, the alliance of European universities, our position in the cross-section of the rankings will strengthen over the course of 4-5 years," comments Maximilián Strémy, STU Vice-Rector, the publicised rankings.
EngiRank, developed in cooperation with the international publisher Elsevier, applies a new approach in regional ranking "based on subject", while using European-specific indicators such as the participation of universities in the Erasmus+ and Horizon programs, evaluating universities in countries with a similar legal and cultural environment, regarding institutions involved in joint research programs and initiatives of academic cooperation. Besides traditional indicators such as publications, citations and internationalization, the methodology developed for EngiRank also considers the factors such as cooperation with industry, joint research with companies, patents, contributions to the SDG goals and engineering accreditations (ENAEE, ABET). Data for the ranking comes from Elsevier's Scopus database, PATSTAT of the European Patent Office, Horizon Europe and organizations accrediting engineering studies (ABET, ENAEE).
Educational Foundation of "Perspektywy" (Fundacja Edukacyjna "Perspektywy") is an independent non-profit organization established in 1998 to promote and support education. Its Board consists of the current and former rectors and prominent public personalities interested in the development of higher education in Poland and in the world.
