The Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava has recorded a double representation in the latest prestigious QS World University Rankings by Subject for the year 2025. It is the only Slovak university ranked in two fields: Computer Science and Information Systems, and Materials Science.
The latest edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject for 2025 includes 55 individual subjects within five broad subject areas.
In this year's edition of the ranking, STU was ranked 751-850 out of 850 universities included in the ranking and 2,149 analyzed institutions in the field of Computer Science and Information Systems (Engineering and Technology). Simultaneously, STU was ranked 401-550 out of 550 universities included in the ranking and 1,380 institutions in the field of Materials Science (Natural Sciences).
"We consider the double representation of the Slovak University of Technology in the renowned ranking as both, pleasing and obliging, since it is a relevant tool for evaluating and perceiving scientific areas at universities in an international context. In next year's edition, we will try to increase the number and ranking of our placements," responded Maximilián Strémy, the STU Vice-Rector for Strategic Projects, Development, Innovation and Practice.
As many as 1747 institutions out of a total of 5203 analyzed ones were included in the ranking. Before, STU appeared in the ranking of 2022 in one field - Mechanical Engineering.
Each field is evaluated based on five indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations per article, H-index and international research network. The indicators appear in different ratios, regarding individual fields. Also, the limit of the number of universities to be included in the ranking is different for individual field.
