Coronavirus measures at Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava
Due to current situation regarding coronavirus pandemy the rector of Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava Mr Miroslav Fikar has decided to prolong isolation measures at the university and suspend face-to-face classes from 24th of March 2020 until further notice. Lectures will remain delivered online.
In order to maintaining proper quality of distant online studying in following weeks and enabling students to finish their courses, rector of STU has decided to change harmonogram of the current summer semester. Please see the new harmonogram below.
Online lectures: 17 February – 6 June, 2020
Examination period: 8 June – 25 July, 2020
Summer holidays: 27 July – 31 August, 2020
Important: Deans may change the harmonogram at their faculties so please follow instructions given by faculties´ authorities.
Foreign Police
Due to COVID 19 disease pandemy the Units of Foreign Police of the Police Force have limited their operation to new working hours:
Monday: 8.00 – 13.00
Wednesday: 12.00 -17.00
Friday: 8.00 – 13.00
Services of the Foreigner Police are therefore limited to:
- Accepting applications of third country nationals for temporary residence permit – business, employment, study, special activities, research and development, family reunification, meeting of work obligations within the Civil Armed Police Forces, granted status of a Slovak national living abroad, or granted status of a long-term resident in another European Union Member State
- Accepting applications of third country nationals for permanent residence permit
- Other applications can be proceed only upon agreement with directors of Border and Foreign Police
Foreigners who are staying in Slovakia for short period of time (maximum 90 days)and due to current situation regarding the coronavirus pandemy are not able to leave Slovakia on time are advised to follow the procedures:
If they have visa valid for a short period of time (less than 90 days) they can apply for extension of visa up to 90 days. In case that they already have visa valid for 90 days and will not be able to leave Slovakia before visa expires, they are obliged to visit the Foreigner Police Office that will issue decision about obligation to leave Slovakia in 30 days. If foreigners will still not be able to leave the country within 30 days period they are obliged to visit the Foreigner Police Office again (on the last day of 30 days period) in order to apply for extension of the period for leaving the country. The period for leaving the country will be extended with regard to current situation in Slovakia, in the EU and home country of the foreigner. The same procedure will be applied for foreigners who don ´t need visa for their stay in Slovakia (after reaching 90 days in the country).
Traveling During the State of Emergency 26/03/2020
Due to the threat to public health and the necessity to adopt measures according to the Act on Civil Protection of the Population, the Government of the Slovak Republic declared, on March 11, 2020, an extraordinary situation in the territory of the Slovak Republic. On March 12, 2020, the Central Crisis Staff of the Slovak Republic adopted, inter alia, travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 disease.
As of March 13, 2020, the entry of foreign nationals to the territory of the Slovak Republic is not allowed, with the exception of the situations listed below, without prejudice to the obligation to comply with the quarantine and other measures of the Public Health Authority of the Slovak Republic:
1. Foreign nationals who are relatives of Slovak citizens, i.e. husbands/wives, minor children, parents of a minor child. Minor children, husbands/wives do not have to travel together with the foreign national; their family relationship shall be demonstrated by presenting, for example, a birth certificate or marriage certificate (Should a foreign national not carry the original, a standard copy of the document shall suffice.). If the document exists only in a foreign language, the foreign national shall provide for its translation (a non-official translation is enough). When undergoing the check, the foreign national should present the original in the foreign language and its translation.
2. Foreign nationals who have a valid residence in the territory of the Slovak Republic, pursuant to Act No. 4040/2011 on the Residence of Foreign Nationals, as amended, and who present themselves with a valid residency permit, a residence ID and a statement confirming that their residency has been registered.
3. Foreign nationals with temporary or permanent residence in the border region of a neighbouring state who regularly commute for employment reasons to the territory of the Slovak Republic and can present their employer’s certificate of employment.
4. The staff of diplomatic missions, their relatives (husbands/wives, minor children), the staff of EU authorities and organisations and other international organisations whose travel to the Slovak Republic is necessary. At the entry, they must present a diplomatic passport, service passport, or official passport.
5. Persons to whom a permit for small border traffic had been issued and who enter the territory of the Slovak Republic via the external (Slovak-Ukrainian) border.
6. Entry to the territory of the Slovak Republic shall also be made possible for all foreign nationals – drivers of freight transport by road and of goods vehicles who have a CMR loading certificate and also of unloaded vehicles for the purpose of loading goods and transit through the territory of the Slovak Republic to another state without a CMR certificate (the driver of an unloaded vehicle must be able to demonstrate, in a trustworthy manner, the purpose of their travel to a loading place and/or of their transit). Foreign nationals who are drivers of freight transport will also be allowed to entry, who use other ways of transport, under the condition that they are traveling to a place where they are going to be engaged in freight transportation, and are able to demonstrate it.

Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs cautions all citizens of the Slovak Republic that when returning to Slovakia they take into account possible delays at border crossing points due to preventative measures adopted due to the spread of the coronavirus in Europe.
Additional measures adopted to contain spreading of the COVID-19 disease 23/03/2020
Public Health Authority of the Slovak Republic based on conclusions of the session of the Central Emergency Committee of the Slovak Republic on March 23, 2020 adopted additional measures to contain spreading of the COVID-19 disease. The following measures come into force as of March 25, 2020 until further notice:
- Free movement of persons in public is prohibited without face protective equipment (face protective mask, respirator, scarf etc.);
- Groceries, pharmacies, drugstores, newspaper and print kiosks, and shops with foodstuff for animals are to be closed every Sunday.
