The Slovak University of Technology (STU) and the University of Economics in Bratislava (EUBA) have succeeded with an ambitious joint consortium plan focused on a wide range of activities in the field of education and research. The Consortium is aimed at supporting internationalization, sharing research venues and increasing the attractiveness and competitiveness of Slovak universities in the Central European area. The first meeting of the Project Steering Committee with the participation of Oliver Moravčík and Ferdinand Daňo, Rectors of both Universities, took place on 3 July at STU.
The Project support in the amount of almost € 50 million from the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic will cover formation of joint study programmes, harmonization of IT and quality systems, and also modernization of educational infrastructure.
The aim of the Project is formation of the infrastructure supporting integration of education, research and cooperation with practice, thereby increasing the excellence and quality of the services provided and other implemented activities. Though the Project started in January 2022 and will last to March 2026, the integration activities began in January 2024. It is currently in the phase of full implementation and in accordance with the planned schedule. In the first meeting, the members of the Steering Committee decided on election of the Chair, appointed the Secretary and discussed the report on the state of Project implementation. Martin Donoval was elected the Chair of the Steering Committee.
The planned activities of the STU&EUBA Consortium project include harmonization of internal quality systems, formation of joint study programmes, integration of the library and IT systems, and sharing the infrastructure. In addition, investment activities are also being prepared. For STU, it means a complete revitalization of selected buildings of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics and the Faculty of Architecture and Design, while EUBA plans to rebuild and modernize the teaching facilities V1, V2, the Slovak Economic Library and build an innovative Business Lab.
"We intend to keep young talents in Slovakia by offering them an attractive study and research environment at the level of international standards. We believe that, thanks to the Consortium project with the partner University of Economics in Bratislava, we will modernize the infrastructure, improve the quality of education, and thus meet the aim," said Oliver Moravčík, STU Rector.
"This Project obtained from the Recovery and Resilience Plan opens up new possibilities for the EU in Bratislava, its students and the entire academic community. In addition to the direct benefit for the University, it will strengthen its position in the international academic environment and contribute to meeting the European Union's goals in the field of innovation, sustainable development and digital transformation. This Project is the result of continuous quality improvement in all areas of the University's activity," said Ferdinand Daňo, EUBA Rector.
The Project also includes formation of six new joint study programmes reflecting the needs of the modern labour market and designed in cooperation of one of the STU faculties with one of the EUBA faculties: Bachelor programmes: FinTech and Financial Innovations (FEI-NHF), Economics and Management in Power Industry (FEI-FPM), and Master programmes: Economics and Management in Power Industry (FEI-FPM), Management in Nuclear Power Industry (FEI-FPM), Electronic Engineering and International Business (FEI-OF), and Urbanism (FAD-OF). Currently being prepared are the study plans for the first students in the academic year 2026/2027.
