Associate Professor Alexander Schrek of the STU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (STU SjF) in Bratislava became the Innovator of the Year. He was granted the award for his significant innovative contribution in the field of formability of combined laser-welded semi-finished products. He received it at the Scientist of the Year Award Ceremony on 21 May. The award is announced by the Centre for Scientific and Technical Information, the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the Association of Slovak Scientific and Technical Societies.
The Evaluation Committee of the 27th edition of the SR Scientist of the Year selected five scientific personalities out of 48 nominees, who received awards in the categories of Scientist of the Year, Young Scientist of the Year, Innovator of the Year, Technologist of the Year and Personality of International Cooperation.
The winners of the SR Scientist of the Year Award for 2023 in five categories were:
Scientist of the Year: Prof. Ing. Martin Orendáč, DrSc.
Young scientist of the Year: RNDr. Ivana Šišoláková, PhD.
Innovator of the Year: doc. Ing. Alexander Schrek, PhD.
Technologist of the Year: doc. Ing. Miloš Mičian, PhD.
Personality of International Cooperation: Prof. Ing. Igor Farkaš, Dr.
Doc. Ing. Alexander Schrek, PhD. is with the Institute of Technologies and Materials of the STU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, in Bratislava. He is a recognized expert in the field of forming technologies. He was the Head of the Institute, currently is a Vice-Dean of the STU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Bratislava. He is a member of two scientific boards and three editorial boards of journals. He presents the results of scientific research work at foreign and domestic conferences, and regularly publishes in domestic and foreign peer-reviewed journals and journals registered in the Web of Science and Scopus databases.
The aim of the Slovak Scientist of the Year Event is to professionally and socially highlight the prominent personalities of scientific life and their best achievements in science and research in Slovakia. This year's laureates belong to the scientific elite in the areas such as Quantum Technologies, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering Technologies, Physical Chemistry and Artificial Intelligence.
