STU may decide on recognition of a diploma issued by a foreign university only if the study programme in the study field is the same  or related to the study programmes in the study fields carried out at STU.

The applicant shall pay attention, before submitting the application, to the list of the accredited study programmes and  study fields provided at STU. (Study plans for individual study programmes can be viewed here).

1. PROCEEDINGS ON RECOGNITION OF DIPLOMAS in accordance with Section 33 of the Act No. 422/2015 Coll. Recognition of Diplomas and the recognition of professional qualifications and amending certain laws (hereinafter referred as the "Act") are provided on the basis of a comparison of equivalence and similarity of study programmes in the study fields  undertaken at a recognized university in another Member of States or in a third country with recognized university in the Slovak Republic, which is responsible for recognition of study programmes in the same field of study or in related fields of study, as stated on diplomas of higher education issued by a foreign university.

Procedures according to Section 33 of the Act are applied to applicants from countries that do not have an international agreement on mutual recognition of the equivalence of higher education  (bilateral agreement) with the Slovak Republic or are not from the state of European Higher Education Area, since automatic recognition of diplomas is not possible.

The applicant is obliged submit a certified translation of documents  attached to the application in the state language according to Section 33 para. 4 of  the  Act.

2. PROCEEDINGS ON AUTOMATIC RECOGNITION OF DIPLOMAS issued by a recognized educational institution of a Member State or a third country with which it has concluded an international agreement on mutual recognition of the equivalence of diplomas of higher education (bilateral agreement) which the Slovak Republic is bound by law or state of European Higher Education Area (Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Kingdom of Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Holy See, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy , Kazakhstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Macedonia, Turkey, Ukraine, The United Kingdom and Belarus), are resolved in accordance with Section 39 of the Act.
