Information provisions and literature

The STU library functions as a university virtual platform integrating the workplaces of libraries and information centers of university departments providing services to all STU students, and at the same time it is a university, scientific-information, bibliographic and counseling center. It provides library and information services mainly to teachers, researchers, doctoral students and students, preserves and bibliographically registers qualifications, participates in the creation and access to union catalogs of university libraries. Library fund focusing on issues of sectoral economies, management, financing, investment, etc. is content-oriented in connection with the educational and scientific research activities of the guaranteeing workplace, especially professional literature from abroad. The library fund is divided into full-time study and absentee loans. There are study rooms available for library users, which store the most requested and latest publications, study literature and all subscribed periodicals, whether bound or free for the current year. Computers that are connected to the Internet are available to users in the study rooms, and at the same time a system of free access to the library collection is introduced. Absentee loans are mostly aimed at lending scripts, textbooks, and other professional literature to students. In addition to the classic cataloging records / subject, name /, the entire library collection is also processed in its own database, which users can view on the website. The annual replenishment of the library fund is carried out from financial resources allocated from STU subsidies, STU's own publishing activities and its components, sponsorship donations as well as from implemented international projects. Considering the rich book market, whether domestic or foreign, the replenishment of the fund is nevertheless insufficient (high literature prices and lack of funds). This problem is solved by purchasing literature from research projects. Within the STU, the Academic Information System (AIS) is implemented, designed as an information database for teachers and students and their mutual communication. In addition to the regular agenda related to the pedagogical process, it contains modules supporting the mediation of study materials for students, e-learning modules, and other options.

Conditions of distance learning and combined form of studies

STU has been with Google since 2019 G Suite for Education Agreement - Google's team collaboration services package optimized for educational institutions. It allows you to access your own or shared resources from anywhere with an Internet connection and supports all types of devices (PC, laptop, tablet, mobile). A Data Protection Amendment has also been concluded to the contract, which ensures that the G Suite for Education services comply with the requirements of the GDPR Regulation. Unlike publicly available Google services, this package does not place any ads on websites, and user data is not automatically scanned for marketing purposes. The G Suite services are connected to the STU information system, so the same access data (login name / password) is used to log in as to AIS. User accounts in G Suite are synchronized daily with user accounts in AIS, i. no manual action is required to activate the G Suite account. The local authentication server gluu.cvt.stuba.sk is used to verify access data. Detailed instructions are published on the website: https://www.stuba.sk/navody/online. At the time of distance learning, the most used services of the package are : Hangouts Meet - an application for organizing group video conferences with the possibility of "chat" communication, screen sharing and video upload to Google Drive. Guests outside the stuba.sk domain can also be invited to the online meeting. Hangouts Meet is the recommended solution for online lectures and video conferences with students and staff, as it does not require any additional settings or registration. Another tool - Classroom (Google Classroom) is a learning support tool that connects Docs, Drive, and Gmail applications to create and collect tasks without paper. The teacher has an immediate overview of who has completed the work and can provide real-time feedback to individual students. Instructions for using other forms of e-learning are centralized on the site CVT STU: https://www.stuba.sk/navody/online/index.php, https://www.stuba.sk/sk/studenti/e-learning.html?page_id=2711.
