Profile courses

Employability of graduates

a) Evaluation of the study programme graduates employability. The graduate of the study program "Biochemistry and Biophysical Chemistry for Pharmaceutical Applications" has a broad spectrum of scientific knowledge and a technical perspective in the use of this knowledge in industrial, pharmaceutical, medical and laboratory practice. The key result of education is an integrated view of the preparation, resp. isolation of substances from natural sources, biological mechanism of action at the cellular and tissue level, toxicological profile, pharmacokinetics and drug testing procedures in order to transfer them into clinical practice. Masters the basic principles and techniques of work in various types of biochemical, biophysical, pharmaceutical laboratories. Students can assess from a chemical point of view the basic properties and biological effects of various synthetic and natural substances, can perform their separation into chemical individuals and carry out the synthesis of the target compound. Using physical-analytical methods, it can determine the structure of organic, bioorganic, inorganic and bioinorganic molecules, as well as physico-chemical properties of low-molecular and macromolecular biomaterials. The graduate is able to perform biochemical and toxicological analysis of natural and synthetic substances. The graduate masters technical terminology, can understand the meaning of technical texts, communicates in at least one world language at a professional level. He has knowledge in the field of current information technologies used in the control and management of technological processes. Can work in a team and present the results obtained. The graduate of the study program may primarily pursue an engineering or master's degree in follow-up study programs or in related programs. The versatility of this bachelor's degree program allows the graduate to be employed in all countries of the European Union in the chemical, pharmaceutical or food industries in positions requiring a university degree. It can be employed in the production, storage and sale of various chemical, biochemical and pharmaceutical preparations, materials and chemicals, as well as in the position of clinical device operator in healthcare, pharmaceutical industry, also in production and processing of biofuels, in production of natural and synthetic biopolymers, in the field of waste recycling and the use of renewable resources, or the production of new products for the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. Understanding the physical principles of various analytical and diagnostic techniques also offers the graduate the position of operator of clinical devices in healthcare. The graduate can orient his/her focus on the chemical and energy industry, which offers its application in the production and processing of biofuels, in the production of natural and synthetic polymers, in polygraphy, in the field of packaging, textile and protective materials, in the field of waste recycling and the use of renewable resources, or the production of new products for cosmetics and pharmacy. Thanks to graduates knowledge in technical terminology and professional language training, they can also find their application in the sectors dealing with product certification, environmental monitoring, hygiene, metrology, or in translating technical texts.

Statements of employers or regulators

The study program "Biochemistry and Biophysical Chemistry for Pharmaceutical Applications" prepares graduates to continue their studies or work in positions requiring a university degree. Despite the fact that the vast majority of successful graduates of bachelor's degree programs implemented at FCHPT STU continue their engineering studies at the faculty, graduates of the bachelor's degree program will also find employment in positions corresponding to the degree (SKKR 6). Graduates are able to work in the following professions: employee in the production, storage and sale of various chemical, biochemical and pharmaceutical preparations, materials and chemicals, as well as at the position of operator of clinical devices in healthcare, pharmaceutical industry, also in production and processing of biofuels, in production of natural and synthetic biopolymers, in the field of waste recycling and the use of renewable resources, or the production of new products for the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. Understanding the physical principles of various analytical and diagnostic techniques also offers the graduate the position of operator of clinical devices in healthcare. The quality of the study program is undoubtedly guaranteed by close cooperation between the faculty and industrial partners and research institutions, so that the students are already confronted with the challenges they will face in their future employment. In this regard, an important partner of the FCHPT, which regularly, usually twice a year, provides feedback from employers, is the Industrial Board of the FCHPT (https://www.fchpt.stuba.sk/sk/fakulta/priemyselna-rada.html?page_id=3070 ) and its individual members representing the most important industrial partners in the chemical and food industries. Opinion confirmed by the FCHPT STU Industrial Council for the years 2019 - 2022 in May 2021: The Industrial Council confirms the high quality of the bachelor's study programs Automation, Informatization and Management in Chemistry and Food; Biochemistry and biophysical chemistry for pharmaceutical applications; Biotechnology; Chemistry, medicinal chemistry and chemical materials; Chemical engineering; Food, nutrition, cosmetics provided by the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology. It expresses the belief that graduates of study programs harmonized according to the SAAVŠ rules will be as successful in practice as before. All study programs respect the current requirements not only of the current industrial practice of the chemical, biochemical and food industries, but also provide the latest research findings and prepare graduates for the prospects of development of individual industries. The employers emphasize the high-quality, in the conditions of the Slovak Republic, exceptional training in the field of laboratory skills. From the side of employers it is important the ability of graduates to be able to face various technical problems, find suitable solutions, the ability to work not only independently but also in a team. The teaching of students in the field of soft skills, the acquisition of which is part of several compulsory, optional and elective subjects, is also welcome.Nejde o prípad regulovaných povolaní
