Service and consulting services for students and employees of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering STU in Bratislava, aimed at technical support for the operation of the faculty network and information system, lending, publishing and research activities, are provided by the Computing and Information Center, which also includes the Faculty library. The Faculty library represents one of the basic sources of providing information for technical education and research activities of doctoral students, pedagogical and scientific staff of the faculty. It creates preconditions for targeted functioning and provision of information needs with a focus on building library collections and providing scientific information from world databases in accordance with the profile of the educational and research process of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, STU. The library and information center, in addition to lending study literature (Lending Department of the FME STU Library), makes available titles of national and foreign professional journals for Faculty students, teachers and researchers and provides online access to Slovak technical standards via the STN-online service. Basic and additional study literature, magazines, collections, encyclopedias, language and educational dictionaries are freely available for users. The study literature is supplemented by materials accessible via the Internet within e-learning and electronic materials accessible through AIS. The library participates in the computer education of students through individual trainings on working with databases and on the correct citation of information sources. The library includes a study room, which has 50 seats and offers full-time lending services for textbooks, expert books, daily news, magazines, the possibility of working on 6 PCs with installed software AUTOCAD, CATIA, ECLIPSE, MATLAB, MECHANICAL APDL (ANSYS), MATHEMATICA 7. The STU Virtual Library portal is available for students and staff of the FME STU, which concentrates access to electronic information resources and creates a space for support of activities supporting education and research at STU. Based on IP, even through a remote access, students have access to various world databases - CLARIVATE Analytics - Web of Science, Current Content Connect, SCIENCE DIRECT, SCOPUS, IEEE Xplore, SPRINGER, WILLEY, KNOVEL, IOP SCIENCE, APS (physics), GALE etc. Building and access to information technology is comprehensively provided from the university level. Both students and Faculty employees have free access to software commonly used, for example Office 362 Education, highly specialized ones such as ANSYS, MATLAB & Simulink, LabView, high-performance computing (HPC) software, or supporting Google Suite online learning, MS Team.
Distance learning in the academic year 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 was governed by the Study Regulations of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (internal regulation 4/2013), Art. 50a, which stipulates that in a “crisis situation”, the educational activities may be carried out by the distance method according to Article 3, item 4. As the crisis situation in these periods lasted or ended during the probationary period, according to Art. 15 of these study regulations, based on the decision of the STU management and the dean of the faculty, examinations could be performed by videoconference or other means of information and communication technology without physical presence. Procedures for the transition from full-time to distance education were governed by the STU internal regulations - Rector's Order No. 1/2020-PR, Rector's Order No. 7/2020-PR a Rector's Order No. 2/2021-PR. The state final examinations at FME STU were carried out by the full-time method. During the implementation of the pedagogical process in the form of distance teaching, pedagogical process was monitored by random observations by the vice dean for pedagogy and the dean of the faculty. The distance method of education at FME STU was performed by various means of information and communication technologies. The choice of environment for distance education was left to individual teachers, resp. mutually agreed by teacher and the students. The basic method, which is standardly used even in the full-time form, is e-learning through the academic system AIS or Moodle, in which the entire educational modules are already developed. The publication of FME authors Kováčová M., Záhonová V. - E-learning na STU, Ako na to (How to do e-learning at STU) was prepared for the issue of e-learning in the environment of AIS tools, which teachers have available in electronic form on a document server in the AIS system. Google Meet services in G-Suite, MS Teams and Webex, accessible via STU account, represent other recommended options for online communication with students, which enable interactive elements such as screen sharing and video conferencing options, and which are available for all STU faculties and workplaces. Tutorials are available on the STU videoconferencing website. For the needs of ensuring the quality and availability of teaching in common cross-sectional courses, especially basic courses at the bachelor’s degree programs, a modern online multimedia classroom (Classroom 216) equipped with a PC with connection to three presentation monitors was built and put into use. It also employs a 65"" SAMSUNG touch screen monitor, which in conjunction with online software is suitable for distance learning and is also connected to a data projector. The classroom is also equipped by a high-quality audio device installed - ceiling omnidirectional microphones and a rotating 4K camera. The Faculty Computing and Information Center provides overall technical support for distance learning.
The master study program Production Processes and Materials is delivered in Slovak and English language. Cooperation with the external environment in the providing educational activities generally takes place mainly in four forms: - presentation of selected topics in lectures or practical exercises addressed by experts from practice, - solving specific assignments and sample studies from practice on practical exercises in individual courses, - visits to external workplaces (institutions, organizations, industrial enterprises) with an explanation of selected professional topics related to the focus of the study program, - cooperation in solving specific practical topics in the study course Diploma thesis.
Is a place of first contact for an applicant and student. Offers counselling and support services for the admission process, and in all areas related to studies - specifically enrollment, creation of a study plan, fulfillment of study obligations, recognition of subjects, change of study programme, interruption of studies, tuition fees, social care, scholarships and accommodation. Additionally, it also offers help in domestic internships and mobilities.
Methodically guides and coordinates counselling services for applicants and students in the areas of education and social care at STU. Directs appeal proceedings to decisions issued by faculty authorities. Offers services of issuing and verifying documents of study completion, issuing of duplicates of documents of study, recognition of documents for applicants, decisions to award scholarships, remit tuition and support for student organizations at STU.
In cooperation with faculty coordinators, offers counselling services in the area of effective studying, for students with specific needs, in career development, social counselling and counselling in the area of mental health and wellbeing.
Aids students and graduates of STU to develop their entrepreneurship ideas in incubator programmes START and UP.
In cooperation with faculty coordinators, coordinates and organizes international mobilities and internships of STU students, as well as ensures related studies.
STU provides accommodation for students in seven student dormitories - SD Mladá garda, SD Jura Hronca, SD Nikosa Belojanisa, SD Akademik, SD Dobrovičova, SD Mladosť, SD Miloša Uhra in Trnava.
