Knowledge

Aa graduate of the 2nd degree of the Design field of study is assumed to have completed a first-degree study in the field of Design, or in some related field of study. Graduate of the Master's Degree in Design: ● understands the ethical, social, legal, economic and ecological aspects of designing; ● masters the theoretical and practical knowledge of design theory and methodology necessary for the design process; ● keeps the track of the categories, terms and meaningful contexts of design theory; ● understands the building up a competitive advantage and strategy when conceiving a work as a product; ● keeps track of the issue of copyright and industrial protection of design work.

Skillset

Graduate of the Master's Degree in Design: ● has the ability to think creatively, conceptually and critically; ● is capable of critical reflection on the broader impact of the design profession on society; ● is able to reflect and interpret his/her work, keeps track of the problems of contemporary practice and design theory; ● is able to analyze and interpret data, work critically and evaluate information sources; ● is able to identify and solve a design problem in a wider socio-economic context, with respect to people and the environment, and therefore to design products with added value for society and public health; ● knows how to effectively present his/her proposals as part of the design process and promote his/her own design work in public; ● applies his/her own author's expression, creativity and creative thinking in his/her designs; ● can take into account a constructive criticism and incorporate it into his/her designs; ● can express himself/herself in the form of theoretical texts within the field of design; ● is able to create designs in 2D and 3D graphic programs; ● can create visualizations of design concepts, their drawing documentation and specification of proposed solutions; ● has a technical mindset, can read technical drawings and floor plans of projects; ● is informed about the need for continuous personal growth and self-education; ● knows how to negotiate a contract, fee or sell a license for the use of a design work; ● has communication and argumentation skills necessary for the rendering the design services.

Competencies

Graduate of the Master's Degree in Design: ● has experience with the implementation of user research with the application of qualitative and quantitative methods and with the application of research results in design proposals; ● is capable of proposing complex design solutions; ● works with a high degree of independence and has the ability to make decisions; ● is competent to coordinate a multi-member solution team and lead a design project; ● able to work in an interdisciplinary team; ● able to lead the development process in the area of products and services also in an international context; ● masters time management and has the skills necessary to plan, organize and successfully deliver a commercial design project; ● has the ability to manage stress and work under time pressure; ● has the ability to respond critically and creatively to current social problems; ● can think innovatively and strategically; ● identifies the current challenges of design work and creates innovative concepts responding to new social challenges; ● knows how to work in different object scales, from the scale of a utility object to the scale of small architecture; ● has basic photography skills, which he/she uses when researching and recording the creative process, he/she knows how to interpret the results of his/her design work photographically and use them in various graphic environments and to present his/her own work in a professional portfolio.

Employability of graduates

Education in the field enables employment in a freelance profession, in design studios, architectural studios, in project management of development projects, development and technology centers, and also in other professions related to design, such as in the field of advertising, marketing, education, trade and services, in the field of public administration, in the third sector, etc. A graduate of the master's degree in Design can work as a designer of copyrighted and solitary products, an industrial product designer, a designer of software solutions and digital products, an interior designer, a project manager or a worker in the research and development department in the field of design. The graduate can also find employment in the exhibition industry. Graduates of FAD STU largely use the possibility of working under the Agreement or within the framework of the Trade Authorization. Examples of important awards bestowed to our graduates: ● Mgr. art. Stanislav Sabo - interior designer at Škoda Auto a.s., awarded during his studies in the Ján Bahýl Prize 2014 Competition, for his project of a collapsible container for heating liquids (Patent No. PP50029-2012, EU IPO No. 002084988-0001 and No. 002084988-0002 Utility model SK 6657, Design SK 27869), winner of the Student Personality of STU 2017 award ● Mgr. art. Ján Štofko - product designer, awarded the National Design Award 2011 for the collection of lamps for the Slovak manufacturer OMS s. r. o., which included his diploma thesis realized as part of his master's degree at FAD STU ● Mgr. art.
