Spatial, material, and technical provision of a study programme

The study program is implemented in the premises of the STU, namely in the classrooms in the Vazovova - Mýtna complex in Bratislava, but also in the laboratories of the faculties providing partial subjects. In this complex, there are comprehensively equipped teaching spaces in the range of approx. 500 m2 and spaces for studio creation in the range of approx. 250 m2. The premises are renovated, comfortable, equipped with reproduction and computer technology and have a motivating effect. The needs of the study program are served by a laboratory of GIS methods equipped with the most modern technology and software with the support of the ESF project and the SPECTRA development project of the EU Center of Excellence and other laboratories described below. • Laboratory of GIS methods The research needs of the SPECTRA Center of excellence, as well as the needs of specialized teaching, are served by a high tech GIS laboratory equipped with 24 powerful PCs with software for GIS applications and AutoCad, its own server, and a large-scale scanner. The equipment is complemented by specialized desks with chairs for each workplace and necessary data projectors for group presentations. • Laboratory of Economic Modeling UM STU, The laboratory is equipped with computer technology and software for economic modelling as a research and teaching workplace enabling the application of modern methods of mathematical modelling. • SPECTRA Center of Excellence EU The Central European Research and Education Center in the field of spatial planning is a joint workplace of leading institutions in the field of spatial development and planning research: ARL Hannover, IUG Grenoble, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, STU Bratislava. It was formed through a French-German-English-Slovak cooperation project in the field of urban planning and spatial planning with the aim of creating a theory and systematic methodology of the new field of study, spatial planning, based on the original contributions of our own research in Slovak conditions. The training workplace met EC requirements and became an EU center of excellence. SPECTRA CE EU at STU consists of the Smart City Center - the Center for the residential infrastructure of a knowledge-based society, the Urban Safety Center - the Center for Urban Safety, the Center for Strategic planning - the Center for Strategic Planning, SPECTRA CE China - the common ground for smart eco cities in Shanghai. (see www.spectra-perseus.org for details). • SPECTRA Center of Excellence EU and SPECTRA+ CENTER for the development of residential infrastructure of the knowledge economy, Center of Excellence at STU This workplace integrates top Bratislava Region workplaces (STU, UK, SAV) and foreign workplaces with high-quality scientific outputs in the area of spatial development. It focuses on expanding the complexity of the provided know-how and improving its transfer into the practice of housing development management and increasing the efficiency of investments in scientific infrastructure. The goal of STU is to increase the quality of pedagogical, scientific-research and artistic activity also in the form of building unique workplaces - as complex units for a certain professional area. In addition to the existing laboratories and the Center of Excellence (Central European Training Center in the field of spatial planning SPECTRA), other unique workplaces are gradually being developed. The university nature of the spatial planning study program enables the use of synergistic effects of unique STU workplaces. CESTA SAV Center of Excellence is a joint workplace of SAV and UM STU located at the Prognostic Institute of SAS. • TP – Living Lab – a laboratory for testing, monitoring and evaluating data systems for further development and assistance to users in using the web service of the GIS data and service center for the wider area of Szigetköz and Žitné ostrov. established in collaboration with the Institute of Spatial Planning (IPP), West-Pannon Nonprofit Ltd. and the Lechner Knowledge Center from Hungary within the INTERREG project. The aim of the laboratory is also to create conditions for improving the skills and knowledge of spatial planning subjects, communication and availability of information online and coordination of spatial planning and harmonization of decision-making between regions that are closely related to each other but are separated by a border.

Information provisions and literature

The STU Library, which provides services to all STU students, is a university-wide, scientific-information, bibliographic and counseling center. It provides library and information services mainly to teachers, researchers, doctoral students and students, preserves and bibliographically registers qualifications, participates in the creation and access to comprehensive catalogs of libraries of university departments. The library fund with a focus on the issue of spatial development and spatial planning is content-oriented in connection with the educational and scientific research activities of the guaranteeing workplace, especially professional literature from abroad. The library fund is divided into full-time study and absentee loans. There are study rooms available for library users, in which the most requested and latest publications, study literature and all subscribed periodicals are kept, whether bound or free for the current year. Computers that are connected to the Internet are available to users in the study rooms. A system of free access to the library collection is introduced in the study rooms. Absentee loans are mostly aimed at lending scripts and textbooks to students. In addition to the classic cataloging records / subject, names /, the entire library collection is also processed in its own database, which users can view on the website. The annual replenishment of the library fund is carried out from financial resources allocated from STU subsidies, STU's own publishing activities and its components, sponsorship donations as well as from implemented international projects. Taking into account the rich book market, whether domestic or foreign, the replenishment of the fund is nevertheless insufficient (high literature prices and lack of funds). This problem is solved by purchasing literature from research projects.

Conditions of distance learning and combined form of studies

The study program is implemented predominantly in person. Only specific activities using the input of top experts from partner schools and institutions are implemented in the standard situation of education in the online space. These specific activities are listed in the information sheets of individual subjects. The transition from the full-time method to the distance method and conditions of STU is established by the Study Regulations: https://www.stuba.sk/sk/studenti/legislativa/stipendijny-poriadok-stu.html?page_id=4566, CVT - e-learning instructions: https://www.stuba.sk/navody/online/index.php e-learning: https://www.stuba.sk/sk/studenti/e-learning.html?page_id=2711 Distance education is implemented to the necessary extent using available platforms such as Google GSuite, MS Teams, Webex or AIS.

Educational partners

Not only final theses, but also 4 semester projects (two focused on strategic socio-economic planning and two on spatial planning) are implemented in close cooperation with municipalities and other socio-economic partners of regional development. In addition, the entry of practice into education is implemented through practice and excursions, the content of which is defined in information sheets. Special attention is paid to the entry of foreign partners from leading planning schools, members of the Association of European Schools of Planning directly into teaching in the form of joint assignment of semester projects, in the form of online interventions and teacher stays and student mobility within the framework of ERASMUS+ activities, but also from overseas through ERASMUS+ ICM as well as in within the CEEPUS Urban Innovations Network, the coordinator of which is UM STU. Bilateral cooperation agreements, international educational and research projects, and the existence of joint workplaces (with SAV, SPECTRA CE China, Living lab Shanghai, TP LAB) also contribute to the strengthening of students' contacts with practice and foreign top workplaces.
