Knowledge

Theoretical and professional knowledge Graduate of the study program Metrology in the field of study Mechanical Engineering can a. define methods and procedures for designing measurements at the highest metrological level, physical principles, design solutions and method of application of working measuring instruments and measurement standards in selected areas of measurement; b. describe theoretical foundations of designing experiments, evaluating measured data, physical principles of measuring instruments and measuring systems designed to ensure metrological traceability, relevant statistical methods and assess their suitability for use in solving a given research problem, principles and procedures to ensure international equivalence of measurements; c. explain principles of ensuring metrological traceability at the national and international level, principles for evaluating measured data, including the use of advanced methods; d. formulate problems and analyze the results in the field of methods and means of measurement, design of experiments and procedures for evaluation of measurements in accordance with the latest knowledge in the field, methodology of solving the researched problems, based on a thorough knowledge of the current state-of-art, hypotheses and propose experiments to test them; e. analyze a scientific and research problem in terms of defining appropriate measurement methods and procedures, measuring instruments and measuring systems, solved interdisciplinary tasks from their metrological assurance point of view, theoretical and practical problems.

Skillset

A graduate of the study program Metrology in the field of study Mechanical Engineering can a. apply theoretical knowledge for solutions of particular research and development problems in the field of metrology, metrological knowledge in solving interdisciplinary problems; b. innovate existing methods and procedures for designing measurements and processing of measured data, existing physical principles, design solutions, conditions and methods of application of measuring instruments and measuring systems, theoretical knowledge in selected segments of metrology, employing results of the experimental activity; c. develop and improve methods, procedures and technical solutions for the assurance of metrological traceability, theoretical tools for designing and evaluating measurements, theoretical and practical procedures, methods and technical means for solving interdisciplinary problems; d. analyze and evaluate requirements of national economy to ensure metrological traceability at all levels, theories, concepts and innovations associated with the design and evaluation of measurements, the design and use of advanced measuring instruments and measuring systems, information resources in the field of professional interest; e. define development trends related to the problem, suitable theoretical tools and the way of their application to particular scientific issues.

Competencies

A graduate of the study program Metrology within the study field of Mechanical Engineering proves: a. creativity in solving scientific and research tasks during the doctoral study, cooperation with other departments within the own institution or company, cooperation with other research and development institutions in Slovakia and abroad, synthesis of knowledge and cooperation with experts and research and development teams from other scientific and technical fields; b. ability constantly educate himself/herself and improve his/her professional knowledge, experience and skills, to contribute to the development of his/her own research field, respectively to contribute to transfer knowledge in interdisciplinary research, pass on the acquired knowledge to his/her collaborators in scientific research and development teams, present knowledge within the pedagogical activity, work independently with literary sources, synthesize and analyze the acquired knowledge and use it appropriately in his/her professional activities; c. consistency and reliability in the management of the scientific and development team, in the correct and unquestionable presentation of the achieved results of research and development, in participating in national and international grant schemes and research teams; d. responsibility for the results of his/her own work and the results of the research and development team, correct and consistent presentation of the achieved results within the professional and scientific community, appropriate, unambiguous and comprehensible presentation of the achieved results to the wider professional and general public, management of institutions, cooperating partners, compliance with professional and scientific ethics, relevant rules and regulations.

Employability of graduates

The doctoral study program Metrology is aimed to prepare highly qualified graduates who have the prerequisites to fill professional positions in research and development institutions, in organizations of providers of metrological services, institutions belonging to the quality infrastructure. This potential is confirmed with a good employability of students, who graduated the study program Metrology in Slovak. However, since the accreditation of the study program Metrology, delivered in English in a full-time form, no students graduated from it.
