Knowledge

• The graduate of the first degree university education in the Study Field Civil Engineering, Study Program Civil Engineering • has cross-cutting knowledge of core subjects belonging to the core knowledge in the Study Field Civil Engineering at the level of synthesis related to civil engineering structures, basics of architectural and urban design, technical-structural disciplines, has knowledge of environmental, road and water management civil engineering • has knowledge of theoretical and natural science subjects, basic knowledge of designing structures, typology, technical, technological and environmental aspects of buildings, including computer support for their planning, design and management, • knows how to apply appropriate theory, practical procedures and tools to their preparation, design and construction considering wider social, economic and environmental contexts, and can apply them to the design and construction of buildings in a way that demonstrates understanding of the context and implications of alternative decisions, • has an overview of the economic evaluation of costs and pricing in architectural investment projects and has adequate understanding of building structures, investment and operation, • has broad knowledge and understanding of a specialized area including knowledge of practical contexts and relationships to related disciplines which serves as a basis for practice, research or artistic creation, • has practical and methodological knowledge in key areas of the discipline which serves as a basis for the practice, • the graduate will acquire the necessary knowledge about the preparation, realization, operation, maintenance, reconstruction and liquidation of buildings and facilities, as well as knowledge of legal regulation and environmental protection and creation in the chosen area of civil engineering, • is able to communicate/implement all above mentioned knowledge in English

Skillset

The graduate of the first degree university education in the Study Field Civil Engineering, Study Program Civil Engineering • can handle individual elements of various types of buildings with the basic theoretical principles and procedures of their construction and can work creatively with them in the process of designing and construction of civil engineering and water structures, • applies knowledge of architectural and urban design and of structural-technical disciplines when designing specific assignments, • can navigate in the materials suitable for the creation of functional and ecological buildings, • uses knowledge of methods and techniques of architectural and urban design, computer design and methods and basic legal aspects related to architectural and urban design, • perceives the position of all participants in the construction process within the legal and economic environment and understands the moral social context of the discipline, • can classify and elaborate own solution designs, compare and identify suitable solutions, explain the choice of solutions, can apply them considering qualitative criteria with understanding of the context and implications of alternative solutions, • can use English language skills in the field of civil engineering.

Competencies

The graduate of the first degree university education in the Study Field Civil Engineering, Study Program Civil Engineering • can independently prepare project documentation of constructions not requiring zoning and construction proceedings and in the appropriate extent the realization documentation of the architectural and constructional part of the project, • can independently prepare and evaluate documents for the purposes of architectural, structural and technological design, • can independently solve specific problems in a changing environment and at the same time is competent, as a team member, to design material, structural, technical and technological solutions, plan and ensure the realization of individual processes of production of building materials and the construction itself, • makes responsible decisions within the moral, social, legal and economic context of the discipline, • is able to cooperate with all construction participants and specialists of all professions, is able to exercise the profession of assistant civil engineer, technologist, preparer, safety technician as well as to exercise many other professions in the preparation, realization, operation and maintenance of buildings, • can, under professional supervision, produce simple architectural designs and projects using computer and manual techniques, • can present his/her designs in English and justify his/her solutions to a professional audience and work effectively as a team member

The graduate will find employment as a creative team member, team leader or independent responsible employee in the field of design and realization of mainly civil engineering, engineering and water structures, in state administration and regional development, in the educational system, etc. He/she can continue his/her studies in the second (engineering) degree university education not only in Slovakia but also abroad. He/she can also find employment in the construction industry and in international construction companies.
