Graduate Profile

Knowledge

The study programm includes knowledge of natural, technical, social and economic sciences necessary to ensure integrated management of sustainable spatial development in the unity of socio-cultural, natural-ecological, technical and economic aspects of development of territorial socio-ecosystems of regions, cities and municipalities, to reconcile the interests of different actors and territorial development actors and its focus on social and territorial cohesion. It also includes knowledge and skills to ensure activities, from assessing the challenges, conditions, problems and potentials of development and territorial capital, through the formulation of development goals, development of strategic and operational plans, coordination of spatially relevant sectoral planning activities to management of integrated development strategies and plans in a system of socio-economic, landscape and spatial planning, transport infrastructure planning, smart rural and urban development and a system of monitoring and information on the territory. Special attention is paid to the preparation of graduates for moderating the processes of social participation and mediation of conflicts of subjects of spatial development. The graduate masters the scientific methods of inventory, analysis, evaluation and purposeful guidance of processes in social ecosystems of the landscape, including the area of settlements in terms of landscape ecological, socio-economic, historical development, technical, psychosocial, technical-infrastructural and other aspects. He/She is able to use various approaches and methods of scientific work in examining the processes of spatial development, identifying their laws and regularities, creatively design new approaches, economic, technical, organizational, legal tools, including development and management of social services in the territory and methods of guiding spatial development with emphasis on ensuring its sustainability, new procedures, methods and tools usable for planning, design and management of spatial development of territorial entities and the landscape as a whole.

Employability of graduates

The data obtained from the portal https://uplatnenie.sk/ on graduates of the 3rd level of the Department of Spatial Planning clearly show that the majority of students were employed in 2019 – 83% and 17% had a contract job, mainly in the Bratislava region. The largest group was employed in the sectors - Professional, scientific and technical activities. Their average gross monthly wage was € 3224. According to these data, it is clear that there are 0 unemployed graduates of the 3rd level.

Examples of professions the graduate is prepared for

The doctoral graduate is competent to carry out and lead interdisciplinary research on the social ecosystems of regions, cities and municipalities in cooperation with border and participating departments, especially with architecture and urbanism, urban ecology, social ecology and economics, regional and urban management and marketing. He / She finds employment in the academic sphere as a researcher, pedagogue at a university, in analytical-strategic units in the sphere of public administration, e.g. as a state counselor and expert of ministries, as well as in the private development sphere as a manager for spatial development, in the investment institutions and companies as an independent planning professional and authorized planner, etc.
