Spatial, material, and technical provision of a study programme

Information provisions and literature

Library services of the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (FCHPT) are provided by the Slovak Chemical Library (herein SCHL), located at the FCHPT. SCHK provides mainly consulting, bibliographic, research and reprographic services at the level of electronic and other information resources. It makes available a large number of library units (LUs) for its users. The profiling of the library collection is based on the subjects of the FCL study programmes. In 2016, the library collection of SCHK consisted of 211 716 KJ. The annual increment in 2020 is 421 KJ. The library collection contains basic study literature for students of all study programs. Absentee and face-to-face borrowing of textbooks, books and other documents is provided to both internal and external users. For students, the literature is upgraded by means of the latest reprographic technology, while the library itself is the publisher of the study literature. The library offers the most extensive collection of chemical and chemical engineering literature in Slovakia. Since 2011, SCHL has been providing students with study literature in digitized form. The digital library is optimized for use on mobile devices and on all operating systems and can be accessed from anywhere in the world by entering a username and password. The digital library is connected to the LDAP directory service and the print service. There are currently more than 2 000 registered users in the SCHK, the vast majority of whom are students. The library has 1 common reading room, 1 research room and 2 conference rooms. In the reading room there are two large screens for accessing up-to-date information. The faculty also has 26 libraries in each department. There are also 40 computers, 5 iPads and 5 laptops available to students within the SCHK. In order to ensure the quality of information provision, SCHL provides the possibility to use selected electronic information resources within the project National Information System for Research and Development Support in Slovakia - Access to Electronic Information Resources (NISPEZ). Access to EBSCO databases is provided under the national licence: ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), American Physical Society, Emerald, Engineering Village 2, CRC ENGnetBASE, GEN - Genetic engineering and biotechnology news, IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL), Knovel, NATURE, OECD iLibrary, ScienceDirect, Scopus, SpringerLink, Wiley Online Library, Encyclopedia of Industrial Biotechnology, Encyclopedia of Genetics, Genomics, Proteomics and Bioinformatics, Wiley Encyclopedia of Biomedical Engineering, Wiley Encyclopedia of Computer Science and Engineering, Web of Knowledge, Web of Science (WoS), Biosis Citation Index (BCI), Essential Science Indicators (ESI), Current Contents Connect (CCC), Journal Citation Reports (JCR), Water resources research. SCHL has built a digitization workplace, which serves to make available study and scientific literature in digital form, thus providing increased access to the required study literature for students. Digitisation was fully utilised at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, when access to all necessary titles previously available only in paper form was expeditiously provided. In the publishing house of FCHPT STU, teachers publish several titles of university textbooks and textbooks in printed or digital form every year and prepare electronic teaching texts for the provision of e-learning support for education. The Academic Information System (AIS) is implemented within STU and is designed as an information database for teachers and students and their mutual communication. In addition to the usual agenda related to the pedagogical process, it contains modules supporting the mediation of study materials for students The faculty has more than 1200 computers and several local servers. There are more than 40 computer labs with computers that are regularly upgraded. There are 28 x86 servers in continuous operation, the facility of the national academic node of the SANET network, which is part of the Internet, and 5 local servers. The faculty's connection to the metropolitan SANET network is 2×10Gb. The faculty has a wireless network with access to Eduroam, with 150 access points currently in use. A software upgrade of the network switches has also been carried out, which has increased the overall network throughput to 1 Gbit/s. All students and staff with mobile devices are able to connect to the Eduroam network.

Conditions of distance learning and combined form of studies

STU has a contract with Google for the use of G Suite for Education - Google's suite of services to support teamwork optimised for educational institutions - from 2019. It allows you to access your own or shared resources from any location with an internet connection and supports all types of devices (PC, laptop, tablet, mobile). A Data Protection Amendment has also been added to the contract to ensure that G Suite for Education services comply with the requirements of the GDPR regulation. Unlike Google's publicly available services, this package does not insert any ads into websites and user data is not automatically scanned for marketing purposes. G Suite services are linked to the STU information system, so the same login/password credentials are used to log in as for AIS. User accounts in G Suite are synchronized daily with user accounts in AIS, i.e. no manual action is required to activate a G Suite account. A local authentication server gluu.cvt.stuba.sk is used for authentication of access data. At the time of distance learning, the most used services of the package are: Hangouts Meet - an application for organizing group video conferences with the possibility of chatting, screen sharing and uploading video to Google Drive. Guests from outside the stuba.sk domain can also be invited to join the online meeting. Hangouts Meet is the recommended solution for online lectures and videoconferences with both students and employees, as it requires no additional setup or registration. Another tool, (Google Classroom), is a learning support tool that connects the Docs, Drive and Gmail apps to allow paperless assignment creation and collection. The teacher has an instant overview of who has completed work and can provide real-time feedback to individual students. Instructions for using other forms of e-learning are centralized on the CVT STU website. The faculty has experience in implementation of other modern methods of e-learning, which have been applied in several subjects of the study program. FCHPT operates on a server of a learning management system Moodle. Transition from face-to-face instruction method to distance instruction method and the conditions in use for distance learning at STU are regulated by Study regulations of STU: https://www.stuba.sk/english/degree-students/legislation.html?page_id=2021

Educational partners

The most significant industrial partners to FCHPT are members of Industrial Council of FCHPT STU. The Industrial Council of the FCHPT (hereinafter referred to as PR) is an advisory body of the academic self-government of the faculty. The intention of the PR is to link academic research and education more closely with industry to improve the education of our graduates for practice. The PR meets 1-2 times a year, discusses the level of the faculty in educational and scientific research activities, evaluates study programmes at bachelor, engineering and doctoral level, discusses and makes proposals for the provision of educational activities in the field of summer professional practice, comments on the structure of laboratory work and the topics of diploma and bachelor theses, discusses the profile, adaptation and application of graduates, proposes topics and platforms for joint educational and professional projects, and submits proposals for company scholarships. In 2019, the PR meeting established a new PR for the next 4 years. The number of PR members is 22. They are representatives of major chemical, biochemical and food enterprises, and research institutes. At the meeting of the new PR, suggestions for the coming years were also made, such as making the study programs more attractive, the possibility of opening professionally oriented programs and the willingness of enterprises to cooperate in this area, the implementation of applied research, the solution of joint projects, etc. Many of the PR members are also partners and sponsors of the Student Science Conference (SSC) Chemistry Technology for Life.
