Knowledge

Graduates of the Study programme Architecture have: ● deep and cross-cutting knowledge and understand the cultural, intellectual, historical, social, and economic relationship of architecture and the environment, and can understand the role of the architect towards a client or society, which depends on cultivated, analytical, and creative thinking. ● extensive technical knowledge at the level of evaluation on the theory, history of architecture and urban planning, fine arts, humanities and environmental sciences, construction and technical problems, technical equipment and technologies, and knowledge in the field of research and preparation of project documentation, urbanism, planning, and skills used in the planning process ● deep knowledge and understand the theories, methods and procedures that are used in the field, with their possible application in science and research

Skillset

Graduates of the Study programme Architecture: ● can comprehensively develop architectural designs and building projects, their interiors and exteriors, urbanism and local plans for the needs of guiding the spatial development. ● can solve tasks from the urban complex, through architecture of buildings to artistic and technical details, including the interiors of buildings, their reconstructions, restoration of monuments and complexes, and cooperate in the architectural design of civil engineering structures as well as in the artistic completion of buildings. ● can manage to do the coordination of aesthetic, technical, constructional, economic, ecological, social requirements and are professionally prepared to handle preparatory, design, and project activities. ● can manage to do the supervision of the construction of buildings and complexes as well as for related managerial and coordination activities related to the performance of the profession of an architect and an architect-town planner. ● have specific skills important in design, necessary to meet the requirements of users of buildings within the constraints, which are determined by price factors and requirements for the construction.

Competencies

Graduates of the Study programme are characterized by: • a high degree of independence in the design of architectural works and urban units of various scales, design, and implementation of architectural and urban works, as well as works of garden and landscape architecture • responsibility for managing the work team with the ability to lead and coordinate the work team • the ability to cooperate in architectural design of engineering structures and in the artistic completion of buildings • knowledge, skills, and competencies, the scope and structure of which correspond to the requirements of 16 par. (6) of the Act no. 138/1992 Coll. on authorized architects and authorized civil engineers, and which are in accordance with the requirements of the Art. 46 (1) of Directive 2005/36/EC, as well as with the requirements of the relevant national and European legislation (European Qualifications Framework) and to which belong, besides others, abilities: • to create architectural designs that satisfy both aesthetic and technical requirements and are in compliance with the moral values of society • to design universally accessible, barrier-free buildings and environments for all user groups • to procure and process land-use planning documents and land-use planning documentation

The FAD STU students work or practice to a large extent during their studies, where they use the opportunity to work on the Agreement or their Trade License. Examples of professions the graduate is prepared for

A graduate of the master study is qualified to: ● act as an employee in the design-construction sphere, ● after 3 years of practice and obtaining the certificate of the Slovak Chamber of Architects, also work as an independent authorized architect ● work in state administration and public administration (building office, construction and environmental departments, departments of the principal architect, monuments boards) ● work in the field of development, business with a focus on architecture and construction, as well as in the creative industry ● teach at secondary schools and universities with a specialization in architecture, construction, and art ● Completion of the relevant study of the study programme of the second level is a prerequisite for the study of the third level and for scientific research activities in the process of construction and environmental design.

Employers positively evaluate the readiness and ability of graduates of the study programme Architecture to apply well and creatively the acquired theoretical knowledge to solving specific architectural, urban and resulting technical problems and challenges in the field of architecture and urbanism. Also, employers have an excellent evaluation of their soft skills, especially in the presentation and processing of their ideas, projects in computer programs focused on drawing in 2D, as well as 3D, or in BIM and their other graphics skills. Their knowledge related to the social aspects of design, knowledge of the issues of universal design and physical accessibility of the environment are highlighted. Due to the fact that students already come into contact with the design of real assignments during their studies, they are cooperative in creating project documentation (Belluš studios or in the form of internships in architectural and design studios), so they can very quickly join work teams, take part in work tasks as well as confrontation with challenges.
