Description:
High-voltage Laboratory is intended for educational, research and testing purposes in the field of electro-insulation systems’ development, operation and in-service testing at all voltage levels used in Slovakia. Laboratory provides courses of High-voltage Technology, Diagnostics and Expert Systems, Power Grids, Energy Resources and Conversions and Electrical Installations of Power Plants. Hedged courses are accompanied by a significant proportion of laboratory exercises.
The Laboratory has maintained quality system and its built-in and mobile power sources, measuring and test equipment enable to resolve issues of electricity facilities in areas of basic, applied and specialized research and development. Certificate of accreditation for carrying out applied-high-voltage tests was obtained within the Testing Laboratories of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology in 2002.
Projects and cooperation:
Laboratory staff collaborated on research aimed at increasing the power system reliability and security of Slovakia, they developed a de-icing system for earth cable of high-voltage transmission lines, new types of spacers and clamps for high-voltage distribution and transmission lines, a new accurate current sensor for medium- and high-voltage applications, etc. Mechanical, electromechanical and vibration testing of various insulators, on-site periodic verification and insulation systems’ diagnostic of hydro- and turbo-generators, medium-voltage motors, testing of high-voltage instrument transformers and voltage surge arresters of all types, periodical verification of bushings, medium- and high-voltage protective equipment form a substantial part of laboratory activities. Workplace cooperates in the investigation of fault conditions in the transmission and distribution systems, cooperates with foreign manufacturer of medium-voltage cables, perform specific tests and measurements according to the needs of power system operators. Considerable attention is also paid to high-voltage metrology and cooperation on legislative activity within the STN, EN and IEC.
Thank to projects co-financed by the Structural Funds of the European Union called The National Centre for Research and Application of Renewable Energy Sources, Completion of the National Centre for Research and Application of Renewable Energy Sources and Promotion of Research and Technology Transfer in the Field of Decentralized Energy Sources at STU Using the Available Biomass was possible to built-up The National Center for Research and Application of Renewable Energy Sources of STU by complex construction modifications.
Project titled Effective Management of Production and Consumption of Energy from Renewable Sources carried by the Technological Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences made possible a built-up of a computer-simulation laboratory and a control laboratory of production, consumption and power quality. In the premises also builds a workplace of Competence Centre for New Materials and Advanced Energy Technologies.
