According to the ranking of the world’s most influential scientists, compiled annually by Professor John P. A. Ioannidis of Stanford University, the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava belongs to the leading scientific and research institutions in Slovakia. In 2025, eleven STU scientists were ranked among the most influential in the world in terms of lifetime scientific contribution.

The ranking is based on a composite indicator (c-score), which comprehensively evaluates the citation rate of scientific publications in the Scopus database, while regarding the total number of citations along with the quality of publishing activity (Hirsch index), the degree of co-authorship (Schreiber index), the importance of individual publications or the position of the scientist in the authorship team. Scholars are ranked based on their c-score, including and excluding self-citations, and normalized according to individual scientific fields. The selection is made up of either scientists from the top 100,000 in the world or those who belong to the top 2% in their field.
The ranking consists of two parts – it evaluates carer-long scientific impact and also the impact up to the end of current year-1. According to it, in 2025, a total of 11 STU scientists were ranked among the most influential in the world in terms of lifelong scientific contribution. STU thus ranked third among Slovak scientific institutions, behind the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the Comenius University.
The number of top scientists at STU has increased significantly – from six in 2020 to eleven in 2025. STU's share of the total number of the most influential Slovak scientists has long been around 12.5%. “These figures confirm the growing quality of scientific research at STU and the University’s stable position among the leading domestic and international scientific workplaces,” said Maximilián Strémy, the STU Rector.
The significant position of STU is also demonstrated by the individual success of its scientists. Professor Radko Mesiar of the STU Faculty of Civil Engineering was ranked the second most influential scientist in Slovakia in 2020 and 2025, and the third best scientist in the country between 2021 and 2024.
The strongest STU representation within the ranking is held by scientists of the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, and the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology.
