The STU Faculty of Informatics and Information Technologies (STU FIIT) in Bratislava is implementing a significant project in cooperation with the Financial Directorate of the Slovak Republic. Its goal is to develop an innovative software solution providing the basis for a new QR payment system in commercial establishments in Slovakia. The related contract was signed by Oliver Moravčík, STU Rector, and Jozef Kiss, President of the Financial Directorate.

Based on the contract for work signed between the FIIT STU and the SR Financial Directorate, the developed solution will modernize cashless transactions in Slovakia by enabling safe, immediate and transparent cashless payments via QR codes.
“As a leader in the field of digital innovation, STU is proud to participate in the development of a solution with a real impact on the everyday lives of citizens via supporting digitization of public administration,” said Rector Moravčík when signing the contract.

Since 1 January 2026, cashless payments will become a mandatory part of every sales point in Slovakia, which will significantly simplify and accelerate payments for customers, while simultaneously reducing transaction costs for merchants. The benefits will be saved businesses costs compared to card payments and reduced scope for tax evasion. In addition, the solution is independent of commercial providers, since the system is developed exclusively by the public sector.
