The Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava ranked among the top 500 world's elite universities. In the recently published 2016 QS World University Rankings it has ranked between positions 401 and 450 in the category Computer Science and Information Systems. You can view the rankings here.
STU has been ranked the best university in Slovakia also in other categories, particularly in architecture, civil engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials sciences and mathematics. In some of these categories it reached even a higher position (civil engineering, mathematics) or similar (Electrical engineering, mechanical engineering) as in computer sciences, however the evaluators have only compiled a ranking of 100 or 200 best universities. Ranking of individual categories can be found in the attachment to this press release and on our website www.stuba.sk.
“We are catching up with the world leaders and I believe that we will improve our ranking. We have all the prerequisites - experienced lecturers, new laboratories with unique instruments, internationally respected research and intensive cooperation with businesses. Students do not have to go abroad for quality education and science", says Robert Redhammer, the Rector of STU.
The QS World University Ranking belongs to the “Big Three” eldest world university ranking schemes (QS World University Rankings, ARWU- Shanghai Ranking, Times Higher Education World) University Rankings). “These schemes publish just the rankings of the best schools which in the context of the total number of all higher education institutions across the world (approx. 20 000) means that only the elite 2-3 percent institutions get included”, explains the Institute for Education Policy at the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic in its analysis of the world academic rankings.
QS World University Ranking evaluated 4 226 universities worldwide and a total of 945 universities appear in the published range of results. It features rankings of the world’s top universities in 42 subjects, from arts & humanities through to economic sciences, natural sciences, agriculture, engineering, technologies, medicine and chemistry. The ranking results draw on the opinions of academics and employers, alongside analysis of almost 30 million research papers and over one hundred million citations.
