Scholarships of the Government of the Slovak Republic
Slovak government scholarships have long been a part of Slovakia's official development assistance (ODA), which itself is a programme and project activity of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs within the international community.
The scholarship is only for the study conducted in the Slovak language. If applicant cannot speak Slovak, he/she has to pass a 10-month Slovak language course (such course is also covered by the scholarship).
The Government of the Slovak Republic annually awards scholarships for Bachelor, Master and Doctoral degree programmes to students from countries eligible for Official Development Assistance. The list of eligible countries may vary every year.
Slovak government scholarships, under OECD-defined conditions for conducting official development assistance, include awarding the Slovak government scholarship to persons with Slovaks Living Abroad status.
Deadline of application: End of May
National Scholarship Programme
The National Scholarship Programme (NSP) of the Slovak Republic supports study/research/teaching/artistic mobility of foreign students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers and artists at higher education institutions and research organisations in Slovakia. The scholarship shall cover scholarship holders’ living costs (accommodation, board, etc.) during their study/research/teaching/artistic stay in Slovakia.
The Programme supports only short- or medium-term mobility (1 or 2 semesters in case of university students; 1 – 10 months in case of PhD students, university teachers, researchers and artists), not full degree studies at Slovak universities.
Citizens of any country in the world (except the citizens of Slovakia) can apply for a scholarship stay in Slovakia in the framework of the NSP.
The National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic (NSP) supports also mobility of students and PhD students studying at Slovak higher education institutions (or in case of PhD students, students studying at external education institutions, e.g. the Slovak Academy of Sciences) with a permanent residence in Slovakia at higher education institutions and research organisations abroad.
Deadline of application: 30. April, 31. October
